Pebble & Splosh · Episode 5 · about 6 min · Ages 3–6
Bonjour, Paris!
The otter family takes the train all the way to Paris! On the river, Amélie the swan says "Bonjour!" and Splosh tries to say it back. Through the day the otters learn three French words. They spot the colours of the French flag, buy croissants from Monsieur Pierre the hedgehog baker, and climb the Eiffel Tower. Splosh mixes up his words and feels too shy to try, but he keeps going, and in the end he shouts "Bonjour, Paris!" from the very top.
- First French words
- Trying again
- Being polite
Talk about it together
For grown-ups, after watching.
The lesson: Saying hello in someone's own language is a kind way to make a friend. New words feel tricky at first, but if you keep trying, you get them. Bonjour means hello, merci means thank you, and au revoir means goodbye.
- What does bonjour mean? Can you remember the word for thank you?
- Splosh felt shy saying a new word. What helped him try again?
Try this at home
Five minutes, nothing special needed.
Hello around the world
Practise the three words together this week: say bonjour (bohn-ZHOOR) at breakfast, merci (mair-SEE) when someone passes you something, and au revoir (oh ruh-VWAHR) at bedtime. If your family or a friend's family speaks another language, ask them to teach you how to say hello in it too.
Shout along!
Little ones love joining in with these.
- Bonjour means hello! Merci means thank you! Au revoir means goodbye!
- Is that the right word? NOOOO!
- Ready... steady... BONJOUR!
- Blue! White! Red!
