Good Little Minds

Pebble & Splosh · Episode 4 · about 9 min · Ages 3–6

Little Paws Can Help!

It's a busy Saturday in the otters' cozy den. Mama and Papa are rushing around, and every time Pebble and Splosh ask them to play, the answer is "Not right now!" Feeling left out, the two otters use their words instead: "We want to be on the team too. Can we help?" Soon they're floating the big patchwork blanket, stirring berry-pancake batter, and helping with washing day by the river, where Splosh's big splash turns out to be exactly what's needed.

  • Using your words
  • Helping at home
  • Being part of a team

Talk about it together

For grown-ups, after watching.

The lesson: When you feel left out, say how you feel and ask, "Can I help?" Everyone in a family can help, and there's always a job just the right size for little paws.

  • How did Pebble and Splosh feel when everyone was too busy? What did they say to Mama and Papa?
  • Which job would YOU like to help with at home?

Try this at home

Five minutes, nothing special needed.

A job for little paws

Choose one small job your child can do every week, like setting out the spoons, matching socks or fluffing the pillows. Do it together the first few times, then let them be in charge. Finish with a paws-in "Team Otter!" cheer (or your own family's name).

Shout along!

Little ones love joining in with these.

  • Little paws can help too!
  • One, two, three... TEAM OTTER!
  • Ready... steady... FLUFF!
  • Ready... steady... STIR!
  • Ready... steady... SPLOSH!
